United States Naginata Federation General Meeting Minutes

April 1, 2001

San Jose, CA

President Miyako Tanaka Price opened the meeting at 1 p.m.

Executive Secretary Kurt Schmucker presented the agenda for the meeting.

 

Announcements

2001 INF Seminar

Kurt Schmucker relayed information from the Board Meeting of the previous day: the combined United States Naginata Federation (USNF)/INF Seminar is to be held June 27&endash;28 (USNF Seminar) and June 29 (Shinpan Seminar), June 30&endash;July 1 (INF Seminar, Dan Test and USNF Kyu Test). Kurt explained that the USNF has asked the All-Japan Naginata Federation (AJNF) if the dan examination would include a yondan exam. To date, there has been no confirmation of this. Chiu Sensei, Nakano Sensei, Tanaka Sensei and Yamauchi Sensei will be the instructors for the USNF Seminar. Assistants to these instructors will be selected from a list of advanced students (sandan and up).

The INF has requested a joint INF/USNF Board meeting on June 28th to discuss the 2003 INF Championship. There will also be meetings of the INF Technical Committee and the INF Board on this same date.The INF has announced that there will be a shinpan seminar as part of the INF Seminar, but no goodwill tournament.

 

2002 USNF Championship

The USNF has asked its regional federations to propose venues for the USNF Championship next year. So far there have been no proposals received.

 

2003 INF Championship

Possible venues for this event are San Jose State University and Hayward State University.

 

USNF Website

Kurt Schmucker relayed information on the temporary unavailability of the USNF Website. The hosting company has gone out of business and Kurt is working to find a solution. The USNF is going to start an interactive bulletin board that will be linked to the website. Kurt and Nathan Scott will be implementing this.

 

2001 USNF Seminar

This June's seminar may include a half day of tournament practice (how to run a tournament).

SCNF: April 7-8 Tallahassee Florida Seminar

ECNF: April 21-22 New York Seminar

RMNF: Memorial Weekend Seminar, Indiana.

 

Miyako Tanaka Price asked the regional federations to reaffirm or choose new representatives for the USNF Board.

Election Results

The results of this years' election were tabulated by a subcommittee consisting of: Diana Garrett, Kevin Saxton, Diana Payne and Fran Vall. The total number of ballots received was 43, under half the eligible membership. Three ballots were returned by the post office as undeliverable. The results were as follows:

President Miyako Tanaka Price asked the membership to put their names forward in future elections if they wish to participate. She noted that several people who were written in on ballots had turned down requests to run for office. It is always better to have more than one person on the ballot for each position.

 

Sub-committee for 2003 Championship

Diana Payne, Kevin Saxton and Karen Schmucker volunteered to be part of a committee to come up with a list of tasks to be done for the 2003 Championship. The first draft of their work is due to President Miyako Tanaka Price by April 25th.

 

Fran Vall made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Marcia Toyohara seconded it. All in favor: 10. Opposed: 0. Abstentions: 0. The meeting adjourned at 2 p.m.
